We are honoured to host a series of free memorial services throughout the year, along with a popular Photos with Santa event during the holiday season.

General Manager

Iain Smith

Iain began his career in funeral service with Sands Nanaimo in 2000. Upon completion of his apprenticeship in 2004, Iain moved to Sands Victoria to assume the role of Assistant Manager. In 2006 Iain accepted his first management role and moved to Avalon Surrey Funeral Home. In 2008 Iain moved back to Nanaimo to assume the role of Manager for the Sands branch. In 2010, Iain was again promoted to General Manager of Sands Funeral Chapels of Vancouver Island. Iain works with the multi-media team at The Meeting Place Church in Nanaimo, has been the Sgt-At-Arms of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10 for 5 years, and the Security Officer for the Mid-Vancouver Island Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse. Iain is an avid golfer and motorcyclist and enjoys spending time with his wife Sarah and their two children Haden and Faith.

Michael Williams

Born and raised in Victoria and a chef since graduating the Camosun Culinary arts program in 2002, Michael has trained at some of the area’s finest establishments including The Aerie Resort on the Malahat. After travelling to many wonderful places including an 15-month stint in Switzerland to learn his craft, Michael came home to re-establish his roots. He has been catering to and teaching Victoria his tantalizing and nutritious creations and has made a name for himself on TV as the “Island Chef”. Working in unison with local farmers and purveyors, Michael builds his cuisine with health and vitality in mind while making it taste amazing.
