Director, Project Management

The Information Technology Team at our Head Office location at 2 Jane Street Toronto, ON is currently recruiting for a full-time Director, Project Management to join their team.  We are looking for an action-oriented and self-motivated individual who is capable of prioritizing and handling multiple demands simultaneously to lead and develop the Project Management Office (PMO).

Reporting to the Vice President, Information Technology, this role will lead the PMO inclusive of overall project management, strategy and evolution of the department ensuring the team achieves strict deadlines and stays within budget. This role will have a Project Manager reporting to them and as a team, they will oversee the entire Arbor project portfolio and maintain quality controls.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

 

Strategy & Planning

 

  • Oversee all projects and report on progress to the senior management team.
  • Effectively communicate and manage project strategy and expectations to executives, team members and stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Report on project milestones and deliverables.
  • Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
  • Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.

 

Acquisition & Deployment

 

  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals through proper documentation.
  • Draft and submit budget proposals, and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary.
  • Where required, negotiate with other department managers for the acquisition of required resources and/or teams.
  • Determine and assess need for additional employees and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary during project cycle.

 

Operational Management

 

  • Direct and manage project development from beginning to end.
  • Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate team members or internal business partners.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors.  Ability to influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
  • Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
  • Other duties or special projects as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for this role:

  • University degree or college diploma. PMP Certification and knowledge of PMBOK guidelines are required.
  • 10 years direct work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of process development and execution.
  • Experience managing teams and direct reports.
  • Experience managing projects exceeding $10M.
  • Strong familiarity with project management software, such as Smartsheet.
  • Working knowledge of a Microsoft environment.
  • Understanding of software development methodologies.
  • Understanding of Change Management and Change Management principals.
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including negotiation skills.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior leaders, clients, and other departments.
  • Ability to bring projects to successful completion.
  • Strong written and presentation communication skills.
  • Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products.
  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.
